A Beacon for Community.
Set within the landscape of Soundview Park, the new Recreation Center establishes a welcoming civic landmark that reflects the aspirations of its community. Designed by Snøhetta, the building combines a luminous stainless-steel volume with a grounded masonry base, expressing a conceptual dialogue between earth and sky while creating an architecture that is both distinctive and inviting for one of the Bronx’s largest public parks.
LSCO developed a cohesive environmental graphics program that incorporates NYC Parks standards into the building’s architectural language. Exterior identification is intentionally bold yet seamlessly integrated with the building’s stainless-steel façade, while the interior wayfinding reinforces clarity, simplicity, and thoughtful integration. Overscaled environmental graphics are intentionally cropped at the floor and ceiling, transforming symbols into architectural elements that visually extend beyond the boundaries of each room. The result is a unified spatial language that strengthens the relationship between architecture, identity, and community.
