A Beacon for Community.
Set within the landscape of Soundview Park, the newly conceived Recreation Center establishes a welcoming civic landmark that reflects the aspirations of its community. Designed by Snøhetta, the building combines a luminous stainless-steel volume with a grounded brick base, expressing a conceptual dialogue between earth and sky while creating a distinctive building for one of the Bronx’s largest public parks.
LSCO developed an environmental graphics program that incorporates NYC Parks standards into the building’s architectural language. Exterior identification is intentionally bold yet thoughtfully integrated with the building’s stainless-steel façade, while the interior wayfinding reinforces clarity and integration.
Overscaled environmental graphics are intentionally cropped at the floor and ceiling, transforming symbols into architectural elements that visually extend beyond the boundaries of each room. The result is a unified language that strengthens the relationship between architecture, identity, and community.
